Park goes 1-2 in girls’ hockey
Park went up against probably the top two teams in the conference and dropped to 1-2 on the week in girls’ hockey.
Sandwiched between a 3-2 win over North St. Paul/Tartan on Thursday were a 6-0 loss to a strong Woodbury team (4-1, 5-1) then a 5-3 defeat at conference leader Stillwater (4-0, 4-2) Saturday.
The Wolfpack stands 4-4 overall on the season and 1-3 in the Suburban East Conference. All eight of Park’s first games have been on the road to open the season.
Against North/Tartan, Park’s Maleah McMorrow, Lauren Osland and Alaina Post scored goals in the 3-2 win. Post, Ava Taschner, Nora Thurmes, McMorrow recorded assists.
Aubree Laska stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn the net victory.
Park hung with Stillwater most of the game Saturday, trailing 1-0 after one, 3-1 after two but then closing to 4-3 in the third before the Ponies scored again to put the game away. Stella Day, Keira Brennan and Kyra Stofer scored for the Wolfpack.
Park hosts Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday, Dec. 12, starting at 7 p.m.
Park opens girls’ basketball season
With a young team with just one experienced varsity player, the Wolfpack starting the 2023-24 season with a pair of road losses, falling at Hastings 55-28 on Tuesday, then dropping a 70-39 game at Hill-Murray Friday evening.
Senior guard Tori Henderson and Tenley Nelson each scored six points to lead Park at Hastings.
Junior guard Hailey Kieffer dropped in 14 points to pace Park at Hill-Murray. Henderson scored seven points and Olivia Czarnota had five.
Park plays at Mounds View (1-0) Friday.
Park wrestlers ranked to open season
Park is ranked No. 7 in the first of the season ranking of Class AAA teams by The Guillotine. Defending state champion Hastings is ranked No. 2, Mounds View No. 3, Stillwater No. 4 and Forest Lake No. 12.
Park wrestlers ranked are: eighth grader Nolan Bloch ninth at 107 pounds, sophomore Zack Carr, second at 133 and junior Gunnar Mullen, seventh at 152.
