Park swimmers sink South St. Paul

Last dual meet, it was a strong and deep Stillwater squad which did the swamping. Tuesday night it was the Park Wolfpack who sank visiting South St. Paul.

Park racked up its most impressive dual meet win of the season with a dominating 84-56 win over the Packers at the Cottage Grove Middle School pool.

Park won each race expect one varsity, one junior varsity event and the events where the Wolfpack swam exhibitions. The meet gave Park’s veterans a chance to experiment by swimming some different events and also provided Park’s less experienced swimmers a chance to compete in some varsity races.

“I think they all kind of swam well,” said Park coach Amanda Johnson. “I feel like as a whole team this was probably one of our better meets. I gave the chance for the younger girls to kind of showcase their talents too. They don’t always get that opportunity, especially in our conference.

“Like for example Leah Boudouris who is one of our eighth graders won that 500 and she was trying to go for a 6:59 but got that seven minutes,” Johnson added. “I also think that Alayna Faletti in the 100 backstroke she hit her best time by over a second without anybody to kind of push her in that one. Ellie Imdieke who did the 200 freestyle had a really good race. Most of them are looking better than what I would have thought. We’re working on some different things and today it kind of paid off.”

Imdieke led Park with individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.51) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:19.95).

“I’m really happy with how some of my distance races are going,” said Amber Norgaard who won the 100-yard freestyle (57.14). “I really want to see them improve more throughout the season. But I’m really happy with my 200 freestyle so I’m going to try and swim that a lot more and improve on that race. I really want to go sub two minutes in my 200 freestyle.”

Park’s Sarah Weston scored 190.20 to finish first in 1-meter diving. Kaylynn Sowada finished first in the 200-yard IM (2:48.79). Katelyn Norgaard won the 50-yard freestyle in 29.65.

Boudouris had a time of 7:00.48 in the 500-yard freestyle. Faletti had the top time of 1:06.66 in the 100-yard backstroke. Faletti swam a 1:06.66 time in the 100-yard backstroke. Zoe Pfeiffer clocked a 1:24.70 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Zoe Pfeiffer, Lyla Kopp, Faletti and Kylie Dagustino won in 2:23.47. In the 400-yard freestyle it was Faletti, LeMay, Sowada and Jesah Booth finishing in 4:42.25. Park’s Danika Rowan, Celestina De Gracia, Sowada and Evelyn Sahli clocked a time of 2:06.36 in the 200yard freestyle relay.

“Definitely my 100 breaststroke,” said Park senior LeMay when asked what event she was happiest with so far this season. “I just got my best time (1:15.22) like last weekend so that is pretty good. I’m hoping by the end of the season to drop two seconds and potentially get maybe a 1:13, maybe a 1:12.

“I’m glad that kind of getting in the swing of things,” said LeMay. “It was a little slow in the beginning for some people and now a lot of people are dropping time which is so nice to see. And how practices are getting harder so it just means times are going to get faster.”

Sarah Weston won the one-meter diving with a score of 182.70 in Park’s only individual title Thursday as host Cretin-Derham swam past the Wolfpack in a dual meet, winning 109-69, at St. Catherine’s in St. Paul.

Park was third in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Faletti, LeMay, Langness and Katelyn Norgaard (2:07.96). Park was also third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the foursome of LeMay, Langness, Rowan and Faletti (1:54.05).

Ellie Imdieke placed third in the 500-yaf freestyle (6:14.08). Rowan was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:20.11). Langness placed fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:36.45), Faletti was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Evelyn Sahli was fifth in the butterfly (1:17.97). Katelyn Norgaard was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.22).

Katelyn Norgaard had a time of 1:220.29 in the 100-yard backstroke. LeMay clocked a 1:16.45 time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Park’s foursome of Faletti, Nybakken, Imdieke and Rowan finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:24.85.
