Park’s cross country runners had a record setting day Saturday in the Simley Invitational in Inver Grove Heights.

Junior Gavin Stauffer (eighth, 17:07.7) and sophomore Eli Firchau (ninth, 17:08.0 in a personal record) both finished in the top 10 in the boys varsity race and 12 Park runners set personal bests.

The Park boys varsity finished fifth out of 15 teams. The Wolfpack girls were seventh out of nine teams with all five varsity runners setting personal records.

The boys JV team was fourth out of 13 teams. Will Mann won the middle school 3,200 race in a time of 12:04.4.

“We had a great meet at Simley,” said Brad Narveson, co-head cross country coach. “The kids are really starting to put it together as we gear up for our conference championship and section meets. Kalin Randrup set a personal best by two minutes and 10 seconds. She’s new to cross country this year and she’s really starting to figure out how to race a 5K. She’s had some really good practices and now it’s starting to show in the meets. All of our varsity girls set personal bests which was great to see.

“Gavin Stauffer and Eli Firchau are running well at the right time,” Narveson added. “Both finishing in the top 10 and earning ribbons was fun for our team to see. And Will Mann continues to impress as a seventh grader. He won the middle school race and the entire team and coaches couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Jayden Rentz of Park was 35th in 18:34.8 in the varsity boys race, Jack Weir 38th in 18:41.3, Cooper Williams 43rd in 19:07.5, Ben Paulsen 63rd in 19:56.0 and Brandon Carver 65thin 20:00.5. Park’s runners averaged 18:08 times for the 5K course, with a 1:59.8 spread.
