Girls tennis team drops pair of 4-3 decisions

Park dropped a pair of tough 4-3 decisions in girls tennis this week, falling to both Woodbury on Thursday and Harding on Monday. In both matches, Park swept the doubles while being swept in singles.

There were several winning moments for the Wolfpack.

Against Harding on Monday, Park’s Liv Evans and Becky Etten won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Madi Brinkman and Emery Lettner won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and Noelle Chapek and Chloe Newhouse triumphed 6-0-,6 -2 at third doubles.

Grace Townsend dropped a closely fought match at No. 1 singles, falling 6-2, 4-6 and 3-6.

Last Thursday at Woodbury, Park’s top doubles team of Evans and Brinkman won 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). The No.2 Park doubles team of Lettner and Pasia Pitkanen won 6-1, 6-4 and the No. 3 team of Chapek and Keira Brennan won 6-2, 6-2.

Park’s Townsend lost a close one at No. 2 singles, 7-6. 0-6, 3-6, and Camilla Brooks did similar at No, 3 singles, falling 6-4, 2-6, 3-6.

The Wolfpack scored a 4-2 non-conference victory over visiting Eastview Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Park also evened its season record with the win.

The Wolfpack gave up a 5-1 decision to conference-leading East Ridge (3-0, 6-1-1) on Wednesday afternoon in Woodbury.

With the two-game split this week, Park stands 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the Suburban East Conference. 

The Wolfpack fell to 0-3 in the Suburban East Conference and 3-4 overall.

Park hosts White Bear Lake (0-0-3, 0-2-4) Thursday in another SEC matchup, starting at 7 p.m.

 
Park drops two in girls soccer

Park lost a 5-1 decision to visiting Eastview in a non-conference girls soccer contest at Cottage Grove Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 2-4-3 overall.

Host East Ridge (2-0-1, 5-1-2) scored a 4-0 decision over visiting Park (1-2-0, 2-4-3) on Wednesday evening in a Suburban East Conference contest.

Park hosts conference-leading White Bear Lake (2-0-0, 6-2-2) Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.

Park downed host Mahtomedi in four close non-conference games Tuesday, winning 23-25, 25-9, 25-20 and 25-21.

The Wolfpack (6-2 overall) hosts Woodbury (0-5) in their Suburban East Conference home opener on Thursday, Sept. 21, starting at 7 p.m.

East Ridge, which Park hosts in the final game of the regular season on Oct, 16, is currently the No 3 ranked team in Class 4A by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association.

 

Stauffer, Firchau pace Wolfpack cross country team

Park junior Gavin Stauffer and sophomore Eli Firchau both placed in the top 10 to lead the Park High runners to a third-place team finish Saturday in the 15-team meet in the Osceola Invitational.

Stauffer was seventh individually in a time of 17:31.6 and Firchau finished ninth in 17:53.9. Some 155 runners competed in the race.

Holmen won the boys team race with 66 points. Coon Rapids was second with 114, Park third with 124 and Mahtomedi, fourth, 125.

Other Park finishers were Jayden Rentz, 31st, 19:01.7; Jack Weir, 36th, 19:15.6; Cooper Williams, 41st, 19:29.0; Sam Craig, 47th, 19:46.8 and Brandon Carver, 57th, 20:22.6.

Park’s girls team finished 12th among 14 team competing Saturday.
