Park opens girls' hockey season with 4-2 win

Park opened the 2023-24 girls' hockey season with a 4-2 victory over host Bloomington Jefferson Thursday.

Jefferson took a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Park rallied to tie the game at 1-all in the second. Then the Wolfpack turned on the offense, outscoring the hosts 3-1 in the third period.

“We started slow,” said Park head coach Bay Shock. “They scored on the first shift as we turned the puck over a few times in the same shift. The second and third period we started to move and played much better. We ended up with over 30 shots.”

Park outshot Jefferson 33-22.

Junior forward Lauren Osland scored two of Park’s four goals including an empty nest score with 11 seconds to play. Alaina Post and Cassidy Moen also scored for the Wolfpack. Alaina Post, Josie Leonard and Maggie Jensen recorded assists.

“Aubree Laska got her first varsity win (in goal) and played very well,” Shock added.

Laska stopped 20 of 22 shots for a .909 success rate.

Park plays Mounds View/Irondale Friday at the National Sports Center, starting at 7:30 p.m.
