Dahlstrom paces Park gymnastics to win

Senior Emily Dahlstrom won one event and finished second in three others and Park had three of the top four gymnasts in the all-around as the Wolfpack edged host Mounds View/Irondale 129.150 to 127.575 at Edgewood Middle School Wednesday.

Dahlstrom was second in the all-around with a 34.1 score, Clara Opichka took third with a 31.975 and Natalya Rugel was fourth with a 31.650. Natalie Peters of Park finished seventh in the all-around with a score of 23.025 and Ava Klecatsky was eighth with a 22.500.

Dahlstrom and all-around winner Avery Dox (34.55) dominated the competition, finishing first or second in every event except for Dox in the vault where she placed sixth.

Park athletes went one through four on the vault. Rugel won with a score of 8.925, Dahlstrom was second with an 8.625, Peters third with an 8.325 and Klecatsky fourth with an 8.3.

Dahlstrom was second on the bars, scoring a 7.825. Peters finished fourth (7.375), Opichka was fifth (7.325) and Rugel sixth (7.075).

Dahlstrom also won the beam competition, scoring an 8.7. Opichka was third (8.35), Klecatsky fifth (7.850) and Rugel seventh (7.30).

On the floor exercise, Dahlstrom was second with an 8.95, Rugel fourth (8.35), Opichka fifth (8.20) and Vanessa Suh eighth (7.675).

Park has its first home meet of the season Friday, Dec. 15, hosting White Bear Lake starting at 6 p.m.

Wolfpack girls tripped up at Mounds View

Park slipped to 0-4 on the season following a 69-44 loss in girls' basketball at Mounds View Friday night.

Mounds View (2-0, 3-0) led 34-21 at the half and the second half went much the same way.

Tori Henderson led Park with 9 points. Mesa Jameson scored 8, Hailey Kieffer 7 and Kenna German and Tea Alvarenga had 6 each.

Park had its best offensive output of the early season Tuesday, but the defense wasn’t there in a 68-48 loss to visiting Forest Lake in a Suburban East Conference opener for both teams.

Forest Lake led 35-29 at the half but pulled away after the break to win by 20.

Junior guard Tenley Nelson scored 15 points to lead the Wolfpack and eighth grade forward Mesa Jameson put in a season high 14.

The Wolfpack hosts Stillwater (1-1, 3-1) Friday, Dec. 15, with a 7 p.m. start time.

Park girls get a home game, and a win over Raptors

Park junior goalie Aubree Laska and the Wolfpack defense pitched a shutout Tuesday in a 2-0 girls hockey win over the East Ridge Raptors at Cottage Grove Ice Arena. It was the first home game of the season for the Wolfpack after playing the first eight games on the road.

Laska stopped all 20 shots directed at her to earn the net victory.

Senior forward Maggie Jensen scored both of Park’s goals, the first an even strength unassisted tally in the opening period and the second score in period two. Keira Brenna got the assist on the second score.

The win pushed the Wolfpack to 5-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Suburban East Conference.

Park hosts White Bear Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 19, starting at 7 p.m.

Park swim and dive team opens season

Park won the 200-yard butterfly relay and the 200-yard breaststroke relay to highlight the varsity Suburban East Conference relays which kicked off the 2023-24 boys swim and dive season Thursday at Stillwater Middle School.

The Park butterfly team of ninth grader Lalee Yang, junior Parker Jeseritz, senior Logan Schweigert and seventh grader Tyler Cracauer won in 1:51.28.

Park’s breaststroke foursome of Jack and Logan Schweigert, Yang and senior Mason Darling finished first in 2:02.50.

Park was third in the 400-yard medley relay with the team of Logan Schweigert, Darling, Jeseritz and Jack Schweigert finishing in 3:55.51.

In the 400-yard (4x100 IM) relay, the Wolfpack foursome of Darling, Jack Schweigert, Yang and Cracauer finished third in 4:11.60.

Park was second in diving with a score of 153.90.

The Wolfpack team of Ethan Cole, Will Mann, Parker Stueber and Alex Baraibar was sixth in the 800yard freestyle relay in 9:57.77. Park was seventh in the 200-yard backstroke relay with the quartet of Zachary Wood, Morgan Brynes, Shawn Kane and Declan Ayer finishing in 3:15.42. The 400-yard freestyle team of Cole, Brynes, Baraibar and Zack Norgaard finished sixth in 4:28.15.

Park hosts Mounds View Thursday in a dual meet starting at 6 p.m. at Cottage Grove Middle School.
