Boys soccer team fades in the second half

Leading 1-0 at the break, Park suffered a rough second half and dropped to 2-1 decision to visiting Shakopee in boys soccer Saturday night.

It was Park’s fourth straight loss and fifth loss in five games. The Wolfpack fell to 4-7 on the season and stand 2-3 in the Suburban East Conference.

Shakopee improved to 4-4-1 on the season.

Park played a solid first half and had their chances in the second half, but just couldn’t connect.

The game was the same repeated story for the Wolfpack lately, said head coach Andrew Bourgoine. Park started well and played a very good first half. But as the game wore on in the second half, Park wore down and Shakopee picked up the pace.

“It’s the same loss,” said Bourgoine. “I mean we’ve lost seven times now, four in a row. It’s the same loss we keep having. It’s just – we play about 65 to 70 minutes of a match and those 10 to 15 minutes we give up two goals or we give up three goals or whatever it is. We check ourselves out. We not fully prepared to play a full 80-minute game yet.

“And we’re not ready yet. We still have five more games in the regular season to try and figure if we can go 80 minutes,” Bourgoine continued. “And if we can, we have to figure out a way to salvage 70 minutes and then try to play better in those last 10 that we don’t give up three goals every time.”

White Bear Lake 2, Park 1

Park’s scoring slump continued Thursday as the Wolfpack dropped a tough 2-1 decision to host White Bear Lake. It was the Wolfpack’s third straight loss and fourth loss in five games. The only bright spot in a hard 10-day stretch has been a dramatic 2-1 win over archrival East Ridge back on Sept. 12.

Park veteran Tristan Lee, newly back on the team after missing the first half of the season, scored Park’s only goal in the second half. Isaac Lor earned the assist. Neither team scored in the first half.

Woodbury 4, Park 0

Park was shutout for the third time in four games, losing to rival and eighth-ranked Woodbury 4-0 in a match Tuesday at Cottage Grove. The Wolfpack have been unable to score in games against Minnetonka, Apple Valley, Roseville, Eastview and Woodbury so far this season.

Park fell to 2-2 in the conference and 4-5 on the season.

With just four regular season games remaining, Park plays at Stillwater (2-1-1, 5-2-2) Thursday, then hosts Hastings (5-5-1) in a non-conference contest on Saturday. Both games with a 7 p.m. start time.
