Led by senior Rainna Jameson’s second-place finish, Park’s trio of high jumpers went out in style Tuesday and Thursday at the boys and girls track and field championships at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

The school record holder in the high jump, Jameson finished her Park track and field career with a second-place finish at state in the high jump clearing 5-6.

In the boys' high jump finals Thursday, Park senior Hazim King cleared 6-2 to finish tied for seventh while sophomore O’Neal Attisso had a top jump of 6-2 and finished 13th.

Junior Aidan Boche was 22nd in the discus throw with a best of 119-05.

Competing Tuesday in the state meet, Jamison narrowly missed a state championship.

Taylor Taurinskas of Two Rivers won the event with a jump of 5-7, an inch better than Jamison.

“We’re really proud of Rainna and how she’s overcome injuries the last two years and put it all together on the biggest stage to finish second in the state today,” said Park co-head boys coach Brad Narveson. “Over the last month or so you could see how confident she was and how happy she is with life in general.

“This past week she was locked in to competing but also relaxed enough to enjoy everything about the state meet,” Narveson added. “She’s the second-best jumper in the state. That’s fantastic. And now she gets to go home and get ready for the graduation ceremony. That’s a pretty great day if you ask me.”

Jameson came in with tied for the fifth best high jump at 5-3 and is the Park school record holder with a leap of 5-8 set as a sophomore in 2023.

In the boys' high jump, Attisso qualified with a section mark of 6-1 while King qualified at 6-3, tied for third in qualifying marks.

“Hazim ended up finishing tied for seventh,” said Narveson. “We knew it was important to make those early heights on his first attempt in order to help his chances with any tiebreakers that may happen. And that’s what happened. There were 12 guys whose best jump was 6-2 but because Hazim didn’t have any misses at the first two heights he was able to get on the podium. Huge accomplishment for him and we’re really excited for him.

“O’Neal tied for 13th with a jump of 6-2,” Narveson added. “Great job for our sophomore. Great for O’Neal to experience the state meet as a sophomore. Hopefully we can get him back here in the future. We believe his future is very bright.”

Boche was in the first flight of the discus competition, qualifying with a section throw of 149-7.

“Tough day for Aidan,” said Narveson. “The weather wasn’t ideal for throwing today. Rainy and windy. He went out and did his best. He had a great season and should be very proud of all he accomplished. Can’t wait to see what he can do as a senior.”
