Rosemount nips Park boys’ soccer 2-1 in section match Visiting Park gave favored Rosemount a tough battle before falling 2-1 in a Section 3AAA quarterfinal Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Rosemount.

Rosemount (9-5-2) led 1-0 at the break. The two teams each pout in a score in the second half.

Third-seeded Rosemount topped Eagan, 3-2 to advance to the section 3AAA championship against ninthranked Eastview (15-2-1).

The sixth-seeded Wolfpack’s season ends at 4-10-2.

Girls’ soccer season comes to an end Park dropped a hardfought 3-0 decision in the Section 3AAA quarterfinals to host Eagan to end the 2022 girls’ soccer season Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The second-seeded Wildcats led 1-0 at the break, then added two more goals in the second half.

“The wind was a huge factor in the first half and unfortunately it was not at our backs,” said Park head coach Stacy Paleen. “We had trouble establishing any offense and our punts and goal kicks were blown back toward us. The girls battled hard against a very physical Eagan team but could not find many opportunities to score.”

Eagan (11-6-1) dropped Eastview 3-1 in the section semifinals and advanced to the section finals against Rosemount Tuesday.

Seventh-seeded Park ended with a 4-11-2 record.

“We are graduating some very good players, but we are excited about the skill level and experience of our returners, and we see some scoring potential on some of our lower level squads,” said Paleen.

Park tennis players compete in individual section play Park tennis players won three first-round matches, then lost in Class 3AA Individual sections play at Baseline tennis at the University of Minnesota Friday.

Park’s doubles team of Morgan Leick and Rebecca Etten defeated Highland Park’s Ellie Boudet and Mackenzie Malek 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the first round, then lost a close one to Mary Kate Commers/Grave Kelley of Visitation 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5) and 6-4 in round two.

Finley Leick and Olivia Evans of the Wolfpack lost in the first round 6-7 (6), 6-3 and 6-2 to the Highland Park team of Alice Verbrugge and Anna Brock.

In individual play, sophomore Grace Townsend of the Wolfpack won her first match 6-3, 6-1 over Ani Holland of St, Paul Central, then fell to top seeded and eventual section champion Cassandra Li of Eagan 6-0, 6-0 in round 2. Li went 60-1 in the tournament.

Seventh-seeded senior Avrie Morris of the Wolfpack won her opener, 6-0, 6-4 over Ela Cantellano of Como Park, then dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 decision to sixth-seeded Taylor Mares of East Ridge in the second round.

Faletti, LeMay, Norgaard lead Park swimmers Park’s Alayna Faletti was first (27.76) and Afton Le-May second (27.95) in the 50-yard freestyle as the Wolfpack swimmers and divers mixed it up against host East Ridge Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Oltman Middle School. In St. Paul Park.

Amber Norgaard of Park was first (1:06.25) and Faletti second (1:08.55) in the 100yard butterfly. Norgaard also won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.99.

Lemay won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.79.

Arachi O’Brien was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.34. Danika Rowan was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:43.70). O’Brien was also third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.49, followed by Danika Rowan in fourth in 1:05.07. Eraya Nybakken was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:29.19. Lilianna Morris was fifth in the backstroke in 1:15.75. In the relays, Park was second in the 200-yard medley with Norgaard, Le-May, Falleti and Rowan in 2:06.78, fourth in the 200yard freestyle with Rowan, Zoe Pfeiffer, Kaylynn Sowada and O’Brien in 2:01.24 and first in the 400 freestyle with the team of Norgaard, Faletti, O’Brien and LeMay in 4:01.86.

East Ridge won the team race, 102.5 to 78.5.

Park’s next two dual meets are both away contests: at Roseville Oct. 18, at White Bear Lake on Oct. 27.
