Park girls roll to three wins in four games

Park opened the week with a relatively easy win over visiting Cretin-Derham Hall Monday. But now the competition gets much, much tougher.

Park has an extremely rugged two-game closing schedule, hosting No. 7 and conference leader Stillwater (14-2, 20-4) Wednesday, then finishing the season at East Ridge (13-3, 17-7) Friday. Stillwater won the first meeting between the two teams this season 61-25.

The Wolfpack rolled through a 53-36 win over the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders with a solid performance. Park led 30-18 at the break, controlled the tempo throughout and the outcome was really never in doubt.

“We’re just really working in sticking together and just taking the game as it comes and not get too high, not get too low,” said head coach Stephanie Tolkinen. “I think our kids came out with really good energy. I think it’s a game we expect to win and I think we did what we needed to do to make it a convincing win.” It was the 12th time this season the Wolfpack have held an opponent to 40 points or less, all Park wins.

Justine Jameson returned to the lineup following an ankle sprain and led a balanced Park offense with 15 points. Bryleigh Dana had 10 points, Sydnee Nelson 9, Elsa Olson and Tori Henderson 7 each.

“This was a good start to our week,” said Dana, who has scored 22 points in the last two games. “We just have to be ready for our next two games.”

Talented Stillwater and East Ridge teams will indeed provide a challenge for the Wolfpack.

“I think we need to keep playing together because sometimes we kind of fall apart,” said Jameson. “I think we need to play a full game and play off each other’s energy.”

Park is now 11-5 in the Suburban East Conference and 15-9 on the season with two conference games to play. It’s by far the best season the Wolfpack girls have had since the 19-9 campaign of 2017-18.

Park 36, Irondale 23

Park’s roller-coaster week concluded at Irondale Friday as the Wolfpack romped to a 36-23 victory.

The win was Park’s sixth victory in eight games and capped a week where the Wolfpack won by 26, lost by 32 and then doubled up the score on Irondale.

Park trailed the Knights 13-12 in a slow-scoring first half but then turned on the offense in the second half to win going away. The Wolfpack outscored the hosts 24– 10 in the second half.

Playing without leading scorer Justine Jameson, the Wolfpack turned to Bryleigh Dana for offense and she scored a season-high 12 points. Sydnee Nelson had 10 and Toru Henderson 8 for Park.

Irondale fell to 1-15 in the SEC and 4-19 overall.

Lakeville North 64, Park 32 Two days after dominating Woodbury, Park found itself being dominated in a 64-32 non-conference loss at Lakeville North (15-8) Wednesday.

The Wolfpack trailed 32-12 at the half and never recovered.

Leading scorer Justine Jameson was held to just four points in the game. Sydnee Nelson had eight points to lead Park.

Park 56, Woodbury 30

Park made it a season sweep of the Woodbury Royals with a 26-point victory Tuesday night at Woodbury.

Park won the first meeting between the two teams 47-33 back on Jan. 7.

Justine Jameson scored 17 points to pace the Wolfpack on offense. Tori Henderson scored 13 points and Sydnee Nelson 9.

Park led 26-12 at the half.
