Four of Park ‘s best jumped and threw their way to state. Competing at Macalester College in St. Paul Wednesday and Friday, Park high jumpers senior Rainna Jamison, senior Hazim King and sophomore O’Neal Attisso all qualified, while junior Aidan Boche finished first and qualified in the discus.

“The coaches are very proud of how the team performed in a very competitive section,” said Park co-head coach Brad Narveson. “Last year we had one state meet qualifier and this year we had four. So excited to see the hard work pay off for these four athletes.”

King cleared 6-3 in the high jump, three inches better than his previous best, to finish second in the event. Attisso cleared 6-1 and finished fourth.

“That is a three-inch PR,” King acknowledged. “From six to 6-3. I actually did it for the boys that played basketball this year. I swore an oath to them that I had to be great, had to make it to state for them.

Asked if he changed his technique any for the section meet, King said, “I just jumped.”

“To get two boy high jumpers to state is incredible,” Narveson said. “Hazim PR’d at the right time to qualify for state and O’Neal is only a sophomore. What a huge accomplishment to qualify for state as a sophomore. So proud of both of them. And Coach Ermer for putting in the work with all of our high jumpers this year. With Rainna, Hazim and O’Neal he has three jumpers at the state meet. What a great day for our team.”

Jamison, the school record holder with a mark of 5-8 set two seasons ago, qualified for state with a section winning leap of 5-3 on Wednesday.

“Rainna Jameson looked so smooth going over that high jump bar,” said Narveson. “Once she qualified and had the meet won she decided to stop jumping. I still think she can go higher but it was rainy and slippery so it was a good decision to stop. Can’t wait to see her perform at state.”

On Friday, Jamison finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (17.54), finished fourth in the triple jump (35-01.25) with a personal record and ran a leg on the 4x100-meter relay teams.

“Today, I’d say triple jump,” Jamison said when asked what event she was happiest with. “I PR’d. Something kind of clicked in my brain this time where I was reaching and I was of my gosh. I wish I would have taken it a little more seriously.

“Next week (at state) my goal is to place, top three is my goal,” Jamison added. “I think I’ve been working really hard and just being really strategic with my body and I’m finally healthy after being out for two years. So, yea, being healthy I really think I’ve worked hard and I think I really deserve it.”

Boche threw the discus 149-07 to narrowly win the discus competition. Lukas Foss of Hastings was second with a throw of 149-00. Boche also placed ninth in the shot put (43-02.25).

“Aidan Boche had a huge PR in the finals of the discus and qualified for the state meet. So happy for him and our throws coach Mike Rand,” said Narveson. “Aidan has all the physical tools and he put it together at the right time.”

The state track and field meet will again be held at St. Michael-Albertville High School, 5800 Jamison Avenue NE, St. Michael. The Class AAA prelims will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, with the Class AAA Finals starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12.

The Class AAA boys high jump will start at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with the boys discus starting at 4:45 Thursday. The Class AAA girls high jump will be held Tuesday with a 9 a.m. start.
