Park splits SEC pair in boys basketball
Host Irondale edged the visiting Park Wolfpack 80-77 in overtime Friday night in Suburban East Conference boys basketball.
The two teams were tied at 56-all at the end of regulation. Irondale then scored 13 to Park’s 10 in the extra period to claim the victory.
The Wolfpack fell to 4-10 in the conference, tied for eighth place, and stand 7-13 on the season.
Irondale improved to 5-8 in the SEC and 9-12 overall. David-Ola Kazim led a balanced Park offense with 18 points. AJ Kennedy had 16, Tayvion Stewart 11, Anthony Giadyu and Miskar Esayas 10 each.
Park hosts Stillwater (9-5, 13-9) Wednesday then plays at conference leader East Ridge (13-1, 15-6) Friday. The Raptors are currently ranked sixth in Class 4A.
Park 73, Woodbury 68
Park’s AJ Kennedy scored 23 points and Park won its first overtime game of the season at Woodbury Tuesday, Feb. 14, winning 73-68.
The two teams were tied at 25 after one half and at 59-59 at the end of regulation. The Wolfpack outscored the Royals 14-9 in the extra period to earn the victory.
OT Omot scored 17 points, David Ola-Kazim had 16 and Henry Schluetter 9 for the Wolfpack.
It was Park’s fifth win in seven games. Park improved to 4-9 in the Suburban East Conference. Woodbury slipped to 1-12 in league play.
Swim, dive teams set for section meet this week
Park High’s swimmers and divers will compete this week in the Section 3AA meets.
The swimming preliminaries will be held Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m. with the finals on Friday, both events starting at 6 p.m. at Bluewater Aquatic Center in Apple Valley. The diving competition will be held Thursday at Dakota Hills Middle School in Eagan, also starting at 6 p.m.
Park boys skate to 2-all tie at Forest Lake
Host Forest Lake and Park skated to a 2-tie at Forest Lake Thursday in the last regular season game of the 202223 season.
The Wolfpack led 2-1 in the second period before the Rangers knotted the game up at the 10:30 mark. Neither team managed a goal in the third or overtime periods.
Brendan Bloedel got the Wolfpack on the scoreboard in the first period on a power play goal, assisted by Own Corkish and Tyler Schwartz.
Path then took a 2-1 lead at 4:24 in the second on an even strength score by Maccoy Wohnoutka. Schwartz and Corkish again getting the assists.
Alex Harden stopped 24 of 26 shots for a .923 success rate in goal for the Wolfpack.
Park outshot the Rangers 50-26. The Wolfpack, 16-8-1 overall, end the Suburban East Conference season with a 5-5-1 record, good for seventh place. Forest Lake wraps up at 8-16-1 on the season and 1-11-1 in the conference, finishing ninth.
Park drew the fifth seed in the Section 3AA quarterfinals and was scheduled to play fourth-seeded Eastview Tuesday. The winner of that game meets top-seeded St. Thomas Academy in the section semifinals Friday, at Braemar Arena, starting at 5 p.m.
Thunderbolts fall to South Suburban
The South Washington Thunderbolts fell 6-2 in adapted floor hockey Wednesday, losing to South Suburban at Bloomington Jefferson Activity Center.
The Thunderbolts, now 1-5 on the season, host Owatonna in the season finale Wednesday at Park.
