Wrestlers compete at Mat Boss tournament

Park’s Gunner Mullen finished fifth and Park finished 27th out of 33 teams at the prestigious and star-studded 2022 MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament at Rochester Mayo tourney Friday and Saturday.

Park sophomore Zack Carr (15-2) pinned his first-round opponent in 1:37, then lost by major decision to Tegan Sherk of St. Francis. lost his next match at 120 pounds against Carter Katherman of Waconia, then won two straight, including a fall in 5:21 in the consolation finals and finishing 13th over Elijah Wald of Wayzata.

Sophomore Joey Chilton (5-8) lost, them won by a fall in consolation at 138 before himself being pinned out of the tournament.

Sophomore and ninthranked 145-pounder Gunner Mullen (14-3) topped Brody Urbanski of Stillwater by a 4:07 technical fall and dropped Calder Sheehan of RMA 9-7 to open the tournament. Mullen then lost a technical fall decision to eventual champion Koy Buesgens of New Prague. Mullen defeated Caleb Delebreau of Luxemburg-Casco by a 6-2 decision in consolation and topped Josh Route of Hastings 6-3 to finished fifth in the tournament.

At 170 pounds, Sam Lankow (11-6) of Park won his opener with a 5:02 pin over Jad Nakib of Farmington. Lankow then dropped a technical fall decision to eventual champion Glazier of Kasson-Mantorville. Lankow went on to finish 15th with a 3:54 pin in the consolation finals.

Seventh-ranked Alex Carr (12-4) received a first-round bye, then lost by fall to Lucas Peterson of Kasson-Mantorville in the 195 consolation quarterfinals. Carr finished 12th overall, losing to Simley’s Lana Oduwaiye by a fall.

At heavyweight, Park senior Doug Sabin (8-7) lost in the championship first round, then won three times to advance to the consolation finals where he dropped a hard-fought 4-2 decision to Logan Torkelson of St. Michael- Albertville.

The Wolfpack finished with 146.5 points in the team race.

Simley, ranked No. 1 in Class AA, won the team title with 485 points, followed by Class AAA No. 1 St. Michael- Albertville with 467.5 and No. 5 Hastings with 430. No. 2 Stillwater was 10th with 273.5 and No. 10 Forest Lake 18th with 225. Dance team finishes seventh twice Park finished seventh in both the high kick and jazz categories in the Suburban East Conference dance team championships at Mounds View Saturday.

Forest Lake won the high kick event with 4.5 points, followed by: Mounds View, 6; Roseville, 7; Cretin-Derham Hall, 12; Woodbury, 16; Stillwater, 17; Park, 21 and Irondale, 24.

Park finished with 244 points in the event.

Forest Lake also won the jazz event, scoring just 3 points. Mounds View was second with 6, followed by Roseville, 9; Cretin-Derham Hall, 12; Stillwater, 16; Woodbury, 17; Park, 21 and Irondale, 24. Park scored 250 points in the jazz dance.

Park competes in the Two Rivers Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Park’s Viesselman takes third in tourney Seventh grader Kyra Viesselman of Park finished third at 126 pounds in the Hopkins Athena Girls Invitational Saturday.

Wrestlers from 23 schools competed in the tournament. Apple Valley finished first in the team race with 179 points, followed by South St. Paul, 106; and Stillwater, 86.

Viesselman pinned Kamyah Hall of Hopkins in 3:36 in the 126-pound thirdplace finals.

Girls hockey team sweeps North St. Paul/Tartan

It was like Deja vu all over again as Park topped North St. Paul/Tartan girls hockey team by an identical 3-2 score Saturday afternoon at Cottage Grove Ice Arena. It was the same results as when the two teams played Friday at Tartan Arena.

The Wolfpack improved to 6-5 on the season.

Park (2-5, 6-5) plays at White Bear Lake (1-4, 2-7) Wednesday, Dec. 21. Park 3, North St. Paul/Tartan 2 Park won its second straight one-goal game Thursday, skating past North St. Paul/Tartan 3-2 Thursday at Tartan Arena.

Molly Villas, Alaina Post and Kyra Stofer each scored a goal for the Wolfpack, who evened their season record at 5-5.

Park led 1-0 and 2-1 but North St. Paul/Tartan tied the game early in the third quarter. Stofer then scored the game-winner on a power play, assisted by Taylar Nadler, her second assist of the game. Lauren Osland and Stofer also had assists for Park.

Tori Stepka of the Wolfpack stopped 32 of 34 shots in net. Park 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 3 Park snapped a five-game conference losing streak with a much-needed 4-3 win at Cretin-Derham Hall Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Highland Ice Arena.

The Wolfpack outscored the hosts 3-1 in the opening period to take control of the game.

Natalie Post, Maggie Jensen, Molly Villas and Lauren Osland each scored a goal for the Wolfpack.

Taylar Nadler, Osland, Villas and Kyra Stofer had assists for Park.

Tori Stepka stopped 36 of 39 shots for a .923 success rate.
