Girls Lacrosse team chews up Mayo, awaits playoffs

Park 16, Rochester Mayo 6

Park’s Madi Brinkman, Shelby Hansen and Josie Leonard each knocked in four goals as Park ripped visiting Rochester Mayo 16-6 in a non-conference girls lacrosse match Tuesday, May 23.

10th-ranked Park improved to 12-1 in the final game of the regular season.

Kyra Stofer scored twice for the Wolfpack. Megan Husaby and Maleah McMorrow put in one score each.

Park goalies Lauryn Ehrenstrom and Aubree Laska combined for the net win, stopping 5 of 10 shots.

The Wolfpack drew the top seed in the Section 3A girls lacrosse tournament and a first-round bye. They will play the winner of the match between eighth-seeded Hastings and ninth-seeded St. Paul Two Rivers Ducks in a game at Cottage Grove on Thursday, June 1, starting at 7 p.m.

Baseball team tumbles at Hastings

Host Hastings scored a 10-4 win over visiting Park Monday in a Section 3AAAA first round game Monday at Vets Park in Hastings.

Park (7-14) falls into the section elimination bracket and will play second-seeded Eastview (13-9), which lost to Eagan on Monday.

Third-seeded Hastings (15-6) advanced in the championship bracket and will play Eagan (7-13), which upset Eastview 7-3 on Monday in another section first round game.

Hastings edged Park 2-1 during the regular season back on May 9.

Park boys tennis players bow out

The 2023 season came to an end for Park boys tennis players in section matches Tuesday,

Playing at No. 1 singles, Park’s Josh Hess lost in three sets to Chali Xiong from Harding, 2-6, 6-4, 4-6.

“He played an outstanding match,” Park head coach Tony Townsend said of Hess.

Playing at No. 2 singles, Drew McDonald lost 2-6, 0-6 to the No. 1 singles player from St. Thomas Academy, William Bonfe.

“Drew showed a lot of fight in this match,’ Townsend said.

At. No. 1 doubles for Park were Caleb Swigart and Tom Lucas

“They had a great tourney,” said Townsend. “They won their opening match against Woodbury (Faukner/Chen) by a score of 6-3, 6-4.  They showed a lot of grit in this match.  They won their second match in the round of 16, by a score of 6-4, 6-1 over Harding’s Vang and Thao.  They played outstanding all the way through the match.

The Park team lost in the quarterfinals to the No. 1 seed from Eagan (Owen Heidtke/Will Heidtke) by a score of 3-6, 0-6.

At No. 2 doubles were Noah Holmgren/Ethan Lo.  They lost in the first round to a very good team from Saint Thomas Academy (Hinkemeyer/Massey) by a score of 2-6, 0-6.  “They played an outstanding match,” said Townsend.
