Park's Wolfpack Stadium gets a makeover

Park High School’s nearly 50-year-old Wolfpack Stadium will have an extensive makeover when Wolfpack teams take the field this fall.
New stadium lights and pole supports, a new sound system, new bathrooms, and a new and expanded concession stand will be added. Reconditioned seats will another change for fans. A new pressbox will arrive in late October and be installed sometime around the first of November.
“The ballpark for the repairs being made at Park High School is $1.2 million,” said Shawn Hogendorf, Director of Communications and Community Relations for South Washington County Schools. “This includes the stadium pressure wash and seal, press box, stadium audio system, stadium lights, concessions and bathroom. All are well beyond their useful life and the wash/seal of the stadium will prevent further erosion.”
All stadium improvements – with the exception of the new pressbox – are expected to be finished in time for the first Park home game of the season, boys' and girls' soccer matches on Thursday, Aug. 22.
“We were in desperate need of some renovations,” said Park Activities Director Phil Kuemmel. “We’re really excited.”
The improvements are part of the South Washington County district’s long-range facilities plan.
Wolfpack Stadium was built in 1975 and many parts of the facility have remained largely unimproved since then.
Some of the improvements include:
- The concrete bleacher seats will be power washed and sealed.
- Stadium bathrooms will be gutted, and new flooring, fixtures and lights will be installed.
- A new and slightly expanded concession stand will grow about four to six feet, giving workers more space to maneuver. New flooring, cabinets and lights will be added.
- A new lighting system will enable some special lighting effects to be displayed during games. “We’ll have the ability to jazz it up,” said Kuemmel.
