Wolfpack girls hockey team shutout twice

Park has struggled getting the puck in the back of the net at times this season and this week was one of those weeks.

The Wolfpack dropped a second consecutive game where they failed to score Saturday afternoon, falling to visiting Cretin-Derham Hall 3-0 at Cottage Grove Ice Arena. The game followed a 4-0 loss to Forest Lake on Thursday.

“We played okay,” said Park head coach Bay Shock. “This was just two in a row where we’ve got to finish.

“We had our chances,” Shock continued. “Two games in a row kind of snake bitten on the scoring and it’s at the wrong time of the season with two teams that we competed with and you know they get the open net goal – doesn’t really matter – but we’ve got to find a way to score and it’s kind of the same old thing – find a way to score and be in the game and it picks up the tempo, picks up the attitude.”

After a scoreless first period, Cretin took a 1-0 lead at 4:19 of the second. That score stood up almost to the end of the game. The Raiders eventually pushed in two goals in the final three minutes, including an empty nester with 19 seconds to play.

Park ends the Suburban East Conference season at 6-9-1, finishing seventh in the nine-team league, and falls to 10-11-2 on the season. Cretin improved its record to 10-3-3 in the conference, finishing second behind Woodbury, and goes to 14-6-3 on the season.

The Wolfpack wrap up the regular season with a home game against Western Wisconsin (8-9-1) Friday, starting at 7 p.m.

Forest Lake 4, Park 0

Park suffered its first shutout of the season in a 4-0 loss at Forest Lake Thursday.

The Rangers took a 1-0 lead after the first period, led 2-0 after two and then added two more goals in the third. Park, meanwhile, could manage just 17 shots on goal. None of which found the mark.

Park goalie Alayna Adamez stopped 22 of 25 shots by the Rangers.

Forest Lake went to 8-4-2 in the Suburban East Conference and 12-5-5 on the season.
