Old nemesis and seventh ranked East Ridge proved too tough a nut to crack on their home court Monday evening, sweeping visiting Park in three volleyball games.
East Ridge won 25-14, 25-12 and 25-21 to remain atop the Suburban East Conference standings.
Park slipped to 2-1 in the SEC and 10-2 on the season. It was the first time this season the Wolfpack have been swept.
Perennial volleyball power East Ridge has won 17 straight matches against Park since the 2011 season, including 15 sweeps.
Park 3, Forest Lake 0
Park won in straight sets Thursday to go to 2-0 in the conference, winning 25-18, 27-25 and 25-14.
After a convincing win in game one, the second game was a nail bitter.
“The composure of this team is just incredible,” said head coach Amy Johnson. “And they just kept as the task and kept at them until we were able to come back in that second set and then carry our momentum in the third set and finish strong.”
It was the Wolfpack’s fourth sweep of the season.
Park then had a mini celebration for senior Sonja Lind after the game, in recognition of her achieving 500 digs.
“Our confidence was on point,” said Lind. “We as a team, we had so much fun. And never let any errors affect us in any way. And we just played so well as a team. There were no individual players on this team today. We just had such good confidence, and I think that was the main reason we won so good.”
Senior hitter Carly Slusser agreed with Lind.
“I think tonight we did really well as working as a team and playing as one instead of playing as six individuals on the court,” said Slusser. “I think our defense really picked it up from our last game and our serve receive too. And I think our hitters were just finding the court again and again.”
Park 3, White Bear Lake 1
The host Wolfpack got back on the winning track with a four-game Suburban East Conference season-opening victory over visiting White Bear Lake Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The visitors surprisingly won the first game 25-17, before Park took the next three, winning 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17.
Park improved to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. White Bear Lake fell to 0-2 in the conference and 8-4 overall.
Park hosts South Washington County rival Woodbury (1-2, 3-8-2) on Wednesday, then is off until another key game at conference co-leader Roseville (3-0, 13-3) on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
