Woodbury denies Park a home court win

Park’s broken record of close losses got another spin Friday as visiting Woodbury took a 55-51 victory from the host Wolfpack.

The loss was Park’s fifth straight. Seven of Park’s 11 losses this season have been by less than 10 points.

“We’re in every game, we’re competitive, at some point we have the lead,” said Park head coach Isaiah Walfred. “Roseville the other night is a three-point game. Tonight’s a three-point game. We’re there – and we’re just not executing. Some nights its defense, we miss a couple of assignments. Sometimes it’s we don’t run the correct plays; we don’t execute on offense. It’s a little bit of everything. We’re right there. We have two more games before the playoffs and we’re in every game, we’re competing and we’re going to figure it out before the playoffs.”

As usual, Park was competitive and, in a position, to win down the stretch. The Wolfpack trailed 33-27 at the break but outscored the Royals 9-1 in the first three minutes of the half to take a 36-34 lead with 15:02 to play.

The game was tied at 41-all. Woodbury grabbed leads of 49026 with 4:44 remaining and led 51-48 with 52 seconds left.

Sophomore forward Justin Ebbers’ basket in the final seconds cut Woodbury’s lead to 53-51 with 4.7 second left. The Royals then got the ball inside, drew a foul and connected on two free throws for the final margin of victory.

“We’ve been pretty consistent with our message of what we need to do,” Wallfred added. “We need to execute defensively; we need to execute on the offensive end you know when it gets tough. Tonight, we just need to get better shots. We took too many bad shots in the second half. I think we take better shots, plus we missed some easy ones.”

Park (10-14, 5-11) closes the regular season Thursday with a conference game at Mounds View (17-7, 10-6).

Roseville 78, Park 72
